Welcome to Newry Farm, a historic property nestled within a family-owned estate and within a functioning farmland setting on the outskirts of Longford in Northern Tasmania.

This exclusive booking includes both The Stables and The Garden Room, two luxurious, adults-only accommodations, perfect for couples or small groups.

Nestled in the Tasmanian countryside, these accommodations provide a unique blend of history and modern design. Together, they sleep up to 4 adults, making Newry Farm the perfect retreat for a peaceful and private getaway.

The Stables

Step back in time at The Stables, a beautifully restored accommodation built between 1815 and 1840. This luxurious, fully self-contained retreat is designed exclusively for adults, making it the perfect escape for couples seeking tranquillity.

Relax in the charming sitting room by the warmth of a wood-fired heater, prepare meals in the delightful eat-in country kitchen, and retreat to the tastefully appointed loft bedroom with its queen bed and ensuite bathroom.

The Garden Room

The Garden Room is a luxurious fully self-contained bed-sit featuring: 

  • Combined Queen bedroom and living room, with French doors that open to an outdoor sitting area. Guests can take in the views and enjoy direct access to the beautiful English gardens.

  • Separate Bathroom.

  • Fully equipped modern kitchen and sitting area to enjoy meals at your leisure.

Location

Newry Farm is an historic farming property situated on the edge of Longford in Northern Tasmania.
Newry is wonderfully located being less than 5 minutes’ drive from the nearby historic townships of Longford and Perth, between 10-15 minutes drive to Launceston Airport and Launceston and 2 minutes’ drive to a main road with direct, ready and central access to all parts of Tasmania. It is surrounded by other historic houses and farms.
Newry has an extensive frontage to the South Esk River, a well known fishing and boating attraction, and the Mill Race, the latter created in the early 19th century to run a flour mill and later a hydro electricity plant.

History


Newry Home and its buildings are historically significant, although precise details of the original construction date and ownership are not yet known. Our understanding is that the original buildings (still standing) comprising the large timber barn, stables and western wing of the house were constructed between about 1815 and 1840. The original part of the house was originally constructed as an Inn, known as “The Jew’s Harp”, en route from Longford (and Perth) to Launceston. The historic stables and barn serviced the Inn.
The original part of the house and the stables are, we understand, convict built.
The barn is understood to have been designed and/or constructed by the same architect/builder responsible for similarly unique barns at local world heritage listed properties, Brickendon and Woolmers.
